Firelock Games has released an online Oak & Iron Force Builder app geared toward helping you build your squadrons quickly and easily. The builder tool encompasses all Oak & Iron game formats, all currently available factions, ships, admirals/captains, and ship upgrades. It’s easily one of the best-kept secrets players of the game.
Oak & Iron Force Builder Overview
The builder includes all of the features you need to select every faction, ship, captain/admiral, and upgrade card currently available in the game. As an added bonus it gives you access to all of the PDF card pack expansions – for FREEEEE!!!
As you select your ships and upgrades it auto tracks your force’s total points allowing you to play with various combinations quickly, without having to do the pesky math.
Steps for Building a Squadron in the Oak & Iron Force Builder
- Pick your game Size
- Pick your Faction
- Click “Ships” to get a list of all the ships (and their stat cards) available for your faction
- Designate your Flagship and assign an admiral
- Add commanders and upgrades specific to your ships.
- Upgrade the ship’s skills
- Select any additional “generic” ship upgrades
While there isn’t an online save for forces, you can save your force as a Json file (a file type typically used by online or mobile applications) to your device and then upload that Json folder later. Then when you are ready to load the force at a later date select “Load Json” and select your file to be able to reload your force and edit.

Pros:
- Access to all Factions, Ship Cards, Captains/Admirals & Ship Upgrades
- Ship Card images & stats are available for instant viewing
- All paid PDF add-on content is available for FREE
- Quickly edit and view changes to your forces
- Export/download as text or json
Cons:
- Doesn’t currently allow you to select your Initiative cards
- It’s a bit clunky (especially on a mobile device)
- You can’t save your force configuration to edit in the future without an export/import process
- Text file outputs are not formatted well and aren’t super print-friendly.
- Changing a faction clears all data entered
